Abstract
Recently in the Fall of 1961, we had a T.B. Mass Survey of 16,712 government
officials who are on duty in Seoul area to find out the morbidity rate of T.B. among
government officials. This was part of the basic study in health control in order to plan
counter-measures on T.B. cases.
Enforcing X-Ray Mass Survey firstly, and then Bacteriological examination, we have
the following results:
Conclusion
1. There was a T.B. Mass survey of the government officials in Seoul area, and the
morbidity rate was 7.33 per cent by X-ray.
2. The T.B. morbidity rate was higher among the older than the younger officials.
3. While the younger had mainly minimal disease, a large proportion of the older had
fap-advanced disease.
4. In the T.B. Mass survey, 74 per cent of the cases were newly discovered while 26
per cent of the patients knew they had T.B. at least 6 months age.
5. In the point of patient finding are and condition of disease, there were much of far
advanced cases in old cases aomparing with a few of far advanced in new cases.
6. The majority (89 per cent) of the above patients had not previously recieved
Chemotherapy, and there were 11 percent of patients who recieved Chemotherapy
previously.
7. There were 15.9 per cent positive by culture among 691 patients who appelied for
this bacteriological examination. 1,037 persons needed the examination.
8. The laryngeal Swab was used for 143 persons who had no (could not spit out)
sputum and there were 18 per cent of positive cases.
This was first time this measure was used in our country.
9. Sensitivity examinations on the above positive cases, Showed 55 per cent resistant
to P.A.S. and 30 per cent resistant I.N.H.
10. Comparing the Radiological diagnosis in the bacteriological there were 6.4 per cent
of positive batoriologically in cases suspected by X-ray about 10.4 per cent of positive
bacillus in MINIMAL T.B. of otherwise, appeared about 15 per cent of positive bacillus
in the patients who were reading to inactive cases on the above radiological diagnosis.
11. With Laryngeal SWABBING CULTURE METHOD, obsenvations were made on
the growth situation of the T.B. bacillus with the specimen preserved under varying
conditions, There were no difficulties in bacilli growth after 144 hours when the
specimen was preserved in 5¡É, When preserved with 10% of Na3HPO
4 the specimen may be rept at room temperature.
